By "salad" Atkins means all the salad vegetables listed on page 84 of 2002 DANDR. That includes some heavy vegetables such as jicama, cuccumber and diakon as well as very light ones like sprouts, lettuce and chives.
What he wants you to do is have 3 cup of those listed salad veggies perday OR 2 cups of them and 1 cup of the "other" lo carb veggies listed on page 85. A much more interesting list BTW but higher in carbs and higher on the glycemic index and therefore to be restricted.
