He's talking about Atkins scams. Dr. Atkins sells his book for $6, just like any other book. Dr. Ellis wants $40 soemthign, to find out about "secrets revealed".

Being able to browse a book in a bookstore to decide if it's worth buying, can resolve the problem. A 10 minute glance will tell you if there are any real "secrets". It's a good scam to sell books, and unfortunately, it works.
