I believe you are thinking about the Diet For a Small Planet combining which combines amino acids to form complete proteins. You bring up an interesting question though about carby foods yielding complete proteins. Hmm...

Anyway, the Fit for Lifers frowned upon beans because they contained both carbs and proteins.
