Discuss it with your doctor. If you know he isn't pro low carb you might avoid using words like "Atkins" or "Low Carb" Instead tell him you plan to remove all refined sugars and most starches form your diet. You will instead have alot of fresh veggies, fruit, protien, and whole grains. Make sure to take your prenatal vitamins

There are a couple women on this bored who are doing Atkins maintananc ewhile pregnant. You can read thier stories in the LC Parents forum on here, and check thier journals. For some strange reaosn twords the end of pregnancy and after the baby is born they just don't have much time to log on

There is also a book out "A Mother-To-Be Does Atkins" It is written by a doctor at the ATkins clinic who became pregnant with twins and maintained a lower carb diet through out her pregnancy.

Make sure to eat well rounded meals. Lower carb can be healthy for both you and baby if you make wise food choices. Sugar laden treats rarely have much nutrition while fruits and veggies have a ton. Make sure to have a serving or two of fresh fruit each day, quite a few servings of veggies, and a variety of each. Also have protien any time youhave carbs to maintain blood sugar. Get calcium from cheese, unsweetened yogurt, cottage cheese and so on.
