I agree with him. I lost weight because I ate less and exercised more. When I got stuck for a month, I came here and heard all kinds of wild ideas (its those atkins bars, coffee, eat only fat, etc).
Well, I did what Ellis suggested. I ate less and added more intense exercise. My weight loss continued soon after. In fact, I have not reached my goal. During this time, I have had carbs on occasion, no real problem. But, when I stopped exercising for 5 days, stopped losing, started gaining. That was while eating NO carbs (or as close as I could get).
So while I hate Ellis's long winded, blowhard speech, I do agree with his basic premise. By the way, I also found Atkins to be a long winded, full of himself blowhard.
