I saw this in my local paper on Sunday and think I posted something about it in TDC. The quote that sticks with you is this:

“You can be the biggest drug addict in the world, and they will still like you in this town. But if you’re fat, they treat you like a leper,” he said to me. “You know what I’m talking about, right?”

She goes on to point out it isn't jut Hollywood, it's everywhere. There are many self-destructive behaviors, and society sympathizes with most. It holds fat in contempt in a special way that goes back into childhood, into some ugly corner of the human psyche.

Hollywood's a pretty accurate model for society in its contempt for the fat.
