Thanks for your responses.

I'm recovering from a back injury and I'm practice hiking to build up my endurance again before I get into the mountain trails. After 5 miles I'm really tired. It takes about 75 min with stretching at the beginning and end and is fairly flat with one big hill. I usually go pretty fast for 4 miles then drag the last mile. I don't eat or drink anything while I'm hiking since it is pretty fast.

I wanted to know is there a particular way of eating for endurance activities that will maximize fat burning, like the body for life people doing cardio on an empty stomach.
