You're right - fat loss is a long, slow process, so where do these two pound overnight losses come from? The main reason is simply the difference, day to day, in what you eat and drink. You'll always have slightly different amounts of water and "intestinal matter" making its rounds. It can make quite a difference in the scale, especially once you take caffeine, alcohol, and salt into account - these can affect the amount of water your body is hanging onto.

Now, be prepared, because it can make the scale go up a bit, too - for example, at PMS time, if you've eaten a fair amount of salt, or a lot of fiber. The ups are normal, too. Don't let them worry you.
