I.e., our societal obsession with extra large portions could still be a contributing factor here to diabetes. Now instead of one piece of cake, you eat two, figuring it's sugar-free...

This would still be the addition of empty calories, even if it did not spike a rise in blood sugar.

Moreover, the benefits are questionable if this is used with the same other refined carbohydrates (white flour, et al) and the trans fats.
