Default Modified BFL??

I've just read BFL and am very impressed. I have a couple of questions, though. I've been doing weight training for about a month now, working with a personal trainer at a gym. Instead of the 5 (or is it 6) courses of reps that BFL recommends per body part, I'm only doing 3, but am definitely working to failure by the 2nd and 3rd time round. My trainer insists that this is fine for women my age (I'm 53) and that she will make sure that the weight is sufficiently challenging (I'm always upping it). So: is this ok? Will it work as well as the straight BFL resistance training?

Next question concerns cardio. I'm doing the HIIT three times a week. It's VERY challenging! But I also enjoy just power walking, at a more leisurely pace, for a longer time. Can I do this several times a week in addition to the HIIT?

Thanks in advance!
