That diet looks plain nasty... and to repeat the original claim, NOT Dr Phil... his diet plan is very sane and rational, and he DOES emphasize staying away from refined carbs...
In the Dr Phil book, he does have a chapter on apple vs pear, but only in regards to the physiological differences in fat storage, and has a chart of suggested supplements to help both types.
