I went on a cruise last April while I was doing Atkins in a pretty strict way. I found that it was easier, with the exception of breakfast where eggs, bacon, etc. were available, to have my lunch and dinner meals in the main dining rooms on the ship (in this case, Disney Magic), rather than in the informal buffet restaurant. I found it was no problem to make special requests, i.e., request no sauce or substitute a low carb veg for potatoes, etc. and there were always protein and salad options available on the menu. I also told our server in the dining room that I couldn't have bread, pasta, etc., and she made a note of it and was sure not to put the bread basket in front of me on the table or try to get me to try pasta dishes. I also found that it was pretty easy to snack at the hamburger stand on the ship where you could get a hamburger or cheese burger without the bun or a grilled chicken breast without the bun. I also took a supply of low carb snacks to have on board to munch on at the shows and while on excursions. I did avoid the desserts, although they did offer sugar free options. I hope this helps. Have a great time!
