I have reread this article and now believe that you could be right. I was expecting it to be anti-Atkins from the start, and this could have influenced my judgment. So I apologize.
However, I still believe that the writer should have compared Mr. Banting's Doctor, Dr. Harvey with Dr. Atkins not Mr. Banting himself. In other words, this diet should have been described in Dr Harvey's biography not Mr. Banting's.
Although I believe that this diet is historically important, I still believe that it is not much similar to Dr. Atkin's diet. I see that Dr. Harvey's advice was to cut on both carbohydrates and fats. So, it was closer to a "low calorie diet" than to a "low carb. diet".
