That's a pretty hard lesson for any sweetener. It's been my experience (since 1998) that ANY sweetener, start very very small and work your way up, tasting all the way if possible. Also, mixing two sweeteners works well, but you use less than half the called for amount of each because they seem to increase sweeteness (and aftertaste) working together.

PS: if this is a saccharin-type liquid sweetener, they are famous for their aftertaste, use with care and always in combination...or you'll ! (has to be a capital P in there or you invoke the guy with a small p.
