I read a sad account years ago about a bunch of mounties on patrol in remote NWT, they died of exposure, malnutrition. The authorities attributed it to too much flour, not enough fat. I think virtually all cold weather survival experts emphasize the vital role of fat in cold weather. In other words, don't try to cross the polar icecap on bagels and snackwells.
