I reviewed the topic of fasting in the Atkins Book and it discourages fasting because the body uses carbs and fats as fuels, primarily. If the body doesn't have these to feast on, it will begin to use protein, muscle, for fuel. Honestly, I would think twice before endulging a lengthy fast.
