Thanks for the info Shirley. No, my doctor did not tell me about Hashimoto disease. I do know that my grandmother had a goiter removed due to her thyroid problems - many years ago. Is this done when the thyroid no longer functions? It's amazing how little we know of these conditions until they hit us personally. Thanks again. Lara
