I am very glad that you haven't had the gastric bypass done yet, hopefully once you lose your 40 lbs you will decide to keep going low-carb and forget about the surgery ?
I'm sure you don't want to get lecture, so I won't, but I think gastric bypass should be done only as a VERY LAST resort.
