I think that the statement means that you shouldn't workout first thing in the morning considering your body has been without food for 8 whole hours and it could mean your body turning to muscle for energy because it is in a fast mode. So there is a difference between that and waiting after a meal to eat. But hey that is just my view on things.
Personally i do a bit of both. Elihnig is right, whenever is the best time for you is the right time.
