Default carbs in yoghurt

Some interesting news for yoghurt lovers! I read this thread:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...&threadid=81871

which says that there are only about 4g of carbs in a cup of unsweetened yoghurt, effectively because the live cultures in the yoghurt 'eat' most of the lactose during the making process. So I'm keen to discover if this is true for local (NZ) products, and a bit nervous to ignore what the labels say (more like 12-16 carbs per cup)!

Anyway today I emailed EasiYo and asked about the effective carbs in their unsweetened yoghurts, and I just had this reply:

Dear Rachel
Thanks for your enquiry. Funny you should ask this at the very time that we have realised this ourselves, and are currently in the middle of testing the lactose levels in the finished product. We are testing levels when the yogurt is just made and when it is 12 hours old as the process is thought to continue for some time after the yogurt has set. Our results will be sent to you whatever the outcome so you know what you can eat and what you can't.
Kind regards
