Any trainers around, need advice

Okay so im Jobless and can't afford to pay the local gym fee 200 to start and 40 a month too much. So, my significant other is buying me a weight set. Free weights. were going tomorrow. Now, I have been doing atkins mind you.

There is also a great trail a block away that I like to run on every other day for a half an hour.

So im stuck right now, weight loss is very very slow and at a stall.. but thats not my goal really.

What I want to do is the half hour run a day, and half an hour on weights.

So doing the atkins and the fat intake etc.. is this advisable? or should I switch to a low fat/high protein diet?

I am also going to be utilizing Ripped Fuel or some other supliment to help me out when I am on the exercize thing.

Just looking for advice on what is suggested to help me.

My stats are 6' and I am down to 235ish weight.. staying there.

I would like to get in the 210 range while working on defining myself.. I need muscles for the summer you know.

So what is a path I should follor or a thread? And is the diet switch advisable or am I okay with atkins doing this?

Hi reubensito,
I’m not a trainer but I have been doing a lot of weight training and high intensity aerobics on a low-carb diet(I follow the Protein Power diet). Basically I do a modified Body For Life workout along with the low-carb diet. I have been doing this for a year now and have been able to add about 20lbs of muscle and drop my %BF down to less then 10%. Something I have run into is that on a low-carb diet you do not have much glycogen stored in your muscles so you kind of run out of gas during the weight lifting. To get around this you can consume a small amount of carbs about 45 min before your workout to give you some extra energy. A good source is some of the protein shakes they have on the market or you can mix up your own. Another thing if you are going to buy a weight bench, don’t go cheap, get something you will not grow out of. I wish I had gotten one of those cages, they are much more versatile.

Hi Reuben,

My advice is to go to the BFL forum. There are a ton of threads, and terrific stickies (See LC and BFL), addressing how to stay LC while incorporating weight lifting and cardio.
