How do you know if it's nitrate free?

I apologize if this is a stupid question. I've never been much for reading labels or studying nutrition, but does the label tell if bacon, ham, sausage, etc is nitrate free? What exactly should I look for?

Also, is there a particular brand of bacon that's better for induction (atkins)?

Thanks,

(restarting after a huge detour) :(

Mommyto3, since nitrate is so common in bacon, it's quite likely it will advertise its lack of nitrate right on the front. If not, just look at the ingredients. Chances are it will list "sodium nitrate" or "sodium nitrite" in the ingredients.

I have only seen nitrate free bacon in higher end and health food stores. Good luck finding it! :)
