calculating carbs

hi, I hope someone can help me, I have come back to trying the low carb after a lengthy break, and I am trying to figure out how to calculate carbs. I know it has something to do with the amount of fibre in things but I am a little lost. If anyone knows anything of what I am trying to talk about could you please let me know. Hope it works this time for me. I have been three weeks now with a loss of 8 pounds but I am doing exercise everyday so I guess that is why the wieght loss is small.

There is an article on the Atkins website explaining about fiber. It is also discussed in his book.

I was going to attach the link to the exact page but his web site is down. You can search for it yourself when it comes back up at www.atkinscenter.com

Rule of thumb is you deduct the grams of fiber from the carb count. Fiber does not affect blood sugar. Hope this helps.

There's also this link to a sticky in the Newbies forum on carb counting: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...&threadid=28869

I'd also like to add..

a plug for Fitday.com

it adds your carbs AND your fibre for you automatically. (You just have to subtract the totals) You also have a list of favorites which keeps track of recent foods you eat so it's not too hard to get you totals down quickly... I go in and click down what "favorites" I have had today then I search by name for anything not on that list. (I do this at the end of the day) and then I change all the amounts at one time. It just gets easier and faster for me the more I do it. I need to look up strawberries before I go to the store!! They have been calling my name lately!
