The 3 hardest things
Hey All,
Please help me out. What would you say were the 3 hardest things about trying to stick to a high carb diet? What would you say are the 3 hardest things about sticking to this low carb lifestyle? |
Hi Rodney,
nice to meet you! "What would you say were the 3 hardest things about trying to stick to a high carb diet? " I never want to go back there, but I can tell you what it was: - being hungry all the time - gaining weight despite exercise and "lowfat" - feeling tired, bloated and depressed "What would you say are the 3 hardest things about sticking to this low carb lifestyle?" Apart from getting started: - trying not to focus on the scale ONLY I can't think of anything more. I just feel great on this. Take care! Alina |
Interesting question

Keeping calories low - i'm always hungry and feel quite deprived on high carb diets. Weightloss stalls and yo yoing. Food isn't as tasty without adding fat. Quote:
Going out to ethnic restaurants where lc choices are often difficult. Weightloss stalls were (until I discovered losing inches on LC is easier). My DH hates anything w/ artificial sweetner so I have to make usually different things for us both. |
Re: The 3 hardest things
Quote:
-It made my hypoglycemic -Failing health (immune system, musculoskeletal, chronic fatigue) -HC/LF tastes terrible Quote:
-Initially my carb and sugar addictions (which has long since subsided) -It requires a little more organization than eating H/C food-in-a-box -(can't think of anything else.....I love this WOL) Wanda |
3 hardest things on high carb:
1) Flat taste, low fat this, low fat that, images of a salad with low fat dressing is so nauseating, I mind as well fast. 2) The only 3 oz of meat/day 3) Calories add up so fast on high carb! a bowl of white rice, and close 300 calories. Hardest things on low carb: 1) No ice cream, most fruits, having to abstain from them. 2) Eating out or socially is all but impractical and impossible. 3) Having to cook more. |
hardest things.....hmmmmm
Well, the hardest things about high-carb were:
1. that the changes didn't last. 2. the constant hunger 3. the low level of calories The hardest about low-carb: 1. It is hard to find the time for all of the cooking 2. I get soooooo frustrated about the stalls 3. Splenda is too expensive Other than those things, I love it. And, if my cholesterol comes down, I will make it a permanent way of life!! Elizabeth |
Hardest things on Low Cal-
I didn't mind fat free salad dressings at all until I tried some full fat dressings, no I have a hard time with some low fat dressings. Hardest thing on Low Carb (Atkins style Low Carb)
For me the hardest thing is the same on both plans - if you can have one thing you can't have the other - Meaning you can't have everything!!!! Please note - I am not aiming to start a War here by saying I am always hungry on Atkins - I am NOT WILLING to eat over 2,000 calories a day right now I gain eating that much- . I am simply answering the question about the hardest things on each WOE. |
Low Fat vs Low Carb
the three hardest things about:
Low Fat: 1. I was eating every hour. I never felt full for longer than 20 minutes. I could eat a full meal and feel stuffed but if a delicious dessert came out, I would eat that too! 2. I had aches, pains, allergies, sleepiness (!), lack of motivation... and somehow I had to have energy to exercise? 3. Food was either Sweet or Bland. Low Carb: 1. Keeping myself organized: Making sure I have my breakfast and lunches covered for work. Making sure I get all my water in, vitamins taken, exercising done. Time management is a must on-the-job-training skill. 2. Not being able to eat any where impulsively. Going out with Friends feeling self consious. Being left out of office lunches. 3. My biggest thing is Cravings, I have to always watch out for sugar or wheat cravings. Sometimes I think I'm doing good but the salad dressing on my salad had sugar and next thing I know, my stomach growls and I'm hungry again! Very annoying. |
Hard things about low-cal:
Being hungry all the time Trying to count calories Total frustration at not being able to permanently loose weight and weighing more in the end Hardest things about low-carb: Eating out Missing some old favorites Remembering to take the meat out the freezer |

Three hardest things about "HIGH" carb:
1. Hypoglycemia symptoms: migraines, fatigue, mood swings..you name it! 2. Missed my cheese, half & half...all dairy 3. Hungry all the time...ate the WHOLE fat-free cake because it was fat free... :D Three hardest things about "LOW" carb... 1. Miss my peanut butter and jelly crackers 2. Takes more planning and taking meals with me 3. Have to visit the grocery store much more often  |
Hi there, what an interesting topic :D
Quote:
1 Low fat food - it just doesn't taste right no matter how much you tell yourself it does, 2 Not being able to stop eating, when the breadmaker would finish making the loaf of bread I could have easily eaten (and ok I have done in the past) the entire thing warm from the oven  3 High blood sugar and high blood pressure Quote:
1 Not drinking fruit juice & eating tonnes of fruit - I love fruit with a passion, my idea of bliss is platters of tropical fruit - I'm a sugar addict! 2 Noodles - not having them, I love asian foods and I miss my noodles. 3. Sometimes it is difficult to find items on menu's that suit you, but you get better at it over time :D :D Fiona :D |
Re: The 3 hardest things
Quote:
1. Feeling guilty about eating. I always felt that I should have to fast in order to keep my fat down. 2. Lack of weight loss no matter how much I exersized or how little I ate. 3. Hypoglycemic episodes. I stayed pretty cranky. Quote:
1. Going out to eat-I am also a vegetarian, and that makes it harder when I go out. 2. I do miss some fruit. But I know I can have it later. 3. Getting lectured from uninformed people about how "unhealthy" this is. |
The hardest things about low-fat, high-carb:
1. Always hungry and never feeling saisfied. 2. Gaining almost all back 3. Tiny meat portions and no cheese! I love my cheeses. What is hard about low-carb? Not much. 1. Sometimes forget to eat in time and get shaky but not hungry. 2. Having problems finding the right foods when eating out. Stay away from fast food places. They're are Carb Hell. 3. Finding something I like for breakfast I easily tire of eggs and meats in the morning. Yesterday I wante (not craved) a bowl of Rice Krispies. Now I'll go see what I can find for breakfast. :D |
