Supplements During Induction

Can someone please advise the best type of vitamins/supplements I should take during induction? I've heard of Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium so far - will this be enough? Or would a simple Multi Vitamin suffice?

And will these stop the head and muscle aches?

Thanks so much

Hello there spamchev:
A multivitamin is certainly advisable. There are lots of brands to choose from. You may not need the potassium - it's fine to use some salt substitute on your food instead of table salt. You find them (made of potassium chloride) beside the salt in the grocery store. Some are called 'No Salt" or "Half Salt".

The calcium/magnesium combination pill is a good idea for women to build strong bones, but Dr. Atkins recent newsletter quoted some studies that found that it enhanced weight loss. So I'm all for that. Do some reading and you'll get more familar. But do take the multi-vit.

All the best.

Vits

I also posted about this same subject a few days ago. the info I got back suggested taking a really good daily multi-vitamin. Upon doing some of my own research I have learned that there is nowhere near enough calcium in a daily, so I've added that as well. Plus, I take fish oil caps for the omega 3 fattys. Research suggests that long term use of this will promote a healthy heart, which is a concern of mine. I was getting leg cramps too, so I just started taking a potassium tab, and it's doing the trick! This seems like a lot of pill popping, but it's working for me. I guess ou just have to find your own level of vitamin intake! :rheart:

I went out and bought many of the recommended supplements before I started.

I originally purchased fish oil to get the fatty acids -- but then I did some more research. You need to watch you don't overdo the Vitamin A which always comes in fish oil. I already had a lot of Vit A in my daily multivitamin and the fish oil with more Vit A put me way over the recommended dose.

So I took back my fish oil and got Flax seed oil instead. Same type of fatty acids but no Vitamin A.

Just food for thought. The body does not excrete excess Vit A and it accumulates in your system and can have side effects.

If you're using fish oil, it may be worthwhile to check how much total vit A you're getting -- if you're also taking a multi.

There's a lot of info on the internet so you can check your own intake against recommendations. I'm no expert by any means.

Right now I'm taking flax seed oil plus Evening primrose because each offers a different kind of fatty acid. I'm also taking E, Pottasium, Calcium/Magnesium, B Complex, Vit D (be careful with this too) and Chromium.

Sheesh! A month ago I took nothing except my multi when I remembered.

Fish oil

I checked my fish oil, and it contains no vitamin A at all. It does have vitamin E, which should be included for digestion. Actually, I started taking regular fish oil caps, but they caused a fishy 'burp' which I was not too fond of. Upon looking around, I found another Fish Oil cap made by a company called Nature's Way. It's called Fisol. It is digested in your intestines as opposed to your stomach, so no more yicky side affects! Joy!
