I'm proud of myself this morning!
 
Last night I went to the movies with a group of women that I don't know. I was invited by an aquaintance and thought it would be nice to get away from the kids for a while. I was a bit worried about the whole snack stand, though. While popcorn has never been my downfall, I just thought it would be akward to be the only one not munching. I did bring a small bag of peanuts that I had in the house and I ordered a Diet Coke (in itself a treat!) You know, I didn't even touch those peanuts! I wasn't even tempted by all the chewing going on around me! The kicker is that they all wanted to go for coffee after. Of course one lady wanted a certain dessert from a reasurant, so off we went for more testing of the old will power. 2 of the ladies split a big brownie/ice cream treat and another couple of ladies split a brucchetta dish. I was steel-willed as I ordered my decaff with sugar twin. I worried more that the group might think I couldn't afford the treats..lol..They kept offering up bites of their food..How embarrasing!..

Anyway! I was so delighted with myself!

Now a quick question..Is anyone familiar with a reasturant called Moxeys? I'm not sure if it's Canada wide or also in the US, but I'm wondering if broccoli cheese soup would be a legal "treat"? This is the BEST soup and I wondered if I could have a bowl? I imagine it would have some evil flour or corn starch in it, but maybe the Atkins Gods will smile down at me on this one!?!?!

Joy..Proud, but still stuck at 130!! Man, these last 5 lbs are a killer!!

The last 5 or even 10 (as for me) is always the killer. You really need the will power and determination to get to the goal.
It really plays a trick on you, because you see how far you ahve come..adn you look good, so you think you lsack off a bit..I know that is exactly how I feel. But I will never make my goal if I don't stick with it full steam ahead, just as if I had 100+ pounds to lose.

As for the soup...I am sure there are some nasty carbs in there. But if you are going to use it as a treat, and not as a regualr meal all the time. I would say go ahead have some, maybe only half a cup to see what it does to you system (ie cravings, water gain. etc)

The soup does sound wonderful..hmm.

Keep the spirit up! And you will be hitting you goal in no time.

Way to go on the movie thing. It is really hard to stick to a plan when you are surrounded by "outsiders" and I always hate to explain myself. (I am on a diet, no I don't eat carbs..etc)
You just proved it...you can have fun WITHOUT eating! Who said you have to eat while watching a movie. The snack bar at movies started not because people WANTED to eat during the movies, but because they could make money off the people by selling the stuff. So they put the supply there, and "create" the demand.
Can you tell I am an ECON major?? hehe.

Great going! I'm so proud of you for your will power! You're doing so great, hang in there, and I'm sure the weight will come off eventually. What you weigh now is my goal weight, and some days I feel like I can't get there soon enough! But surely and steadily, I'm gonna be there! Again, great job resisting all those temptations!

I know how you feel. Yesterday, someone at work brought in a few containers of donuts holes and I didnt even have one. The thing that tested my willpower the most was that everytime I went to refill my glass of water or go to the bathroom, I had to pass by the donuts.

Good for you!!

That was part of my downfall the last time I was L/Cing. I worked at a small office where my boss had a sweet tooth and there was almost always cookies, cakes or some other kind of sweets in the office all the time. Between some traumatic things happening with my kids last year and the sweets being in my face every day, I just broke down and gave up.

You have to be soooo strong and have enormous will power at times when low carbing. I almost have to psyche myself out before committing to this WOE, but I am able to do it because I KNOW it works.

Guess what- we are all proud of you. Each time I hear of some of else doing great-it makes me feel great too!!! We have a Moxies in Grande Prairie, Ab but I am lactose intolerant and as good as it sounds I know what would happen if I had some. I wonder if they have a web-site? On the other hand, maybe if you called the restaurant they would help you out -after all, hmmm wouldn't want ya to have an allergic reaction to the ingredients now would they? Worth a try if it is going to keep you from having an occasional treat to see if you can find out from the horse's mouth (oops Karen, I meant chief) just what is in it by way of thickening.

I used to work in a restaurant and I had people asking me what was in things for allergy reasons. If I didn't know, I would go in the back and check the master list. It all depends on the restaurant. Olive Garden had a list but I had to bug several people to get the info. Anthony's Homeport had a binder full of info. where it was accessible to staff. Many restauarants wont give you a full list of ingred. but if you ask about specifics, most are willing to provide.

Hi all,

Sheaman, at the movie theater you dodged a landmine that has been in the back of my mind -- a BIG bucket of popcorn. Good for you.

Try this: Next time you buy a head of broccoli, save the stem and a few of the tops. Cut them up small and put them in a pot with some chicken broth. Cook them until tender, season with salt, pepper and butter if you'd like, and buzz this in a blender until smooth. Pour it back in the pot but keep the heat low. Add some grated cheese (sharp cheddar maybe) and if you like a little cream. Keep stirring until the cheese has melted, but don't let it boil. Makes a fine soup.

I sometimes do this with asparagas stalks too, but without the cheese. This is good too. (Oh, just in case, put a towel over the top of the blender when you buzz it.)

And reward yourself with two dodged-two-tough-ones brownie points.

I remember going to a pub with a few people and only ordering perrier water - they kept saying "I'll buy you a drink if you want one" like I couldn't afford it too, very embarrasing, but we have to be glad we stick to our guns.
