Eggs have carbs?

I didnt think eggs had any carbs...I went to fitday and entered my 4 eggs and 3 strips of bacon in and BAM! 5 grams of carbs from the eggs. Do they, or do they NOT have carbs?

Akiwican Wed, Feb-12-03 09:26

From Fitday

1 large egg = 75 cal, 5g fat, 1g carb, 6g protein

Actually it is .56 for a large egg if you click on the egg specifics.

Lisa is right about the carb count in eggs, so the rest of the carbs probably came from your bacon. I have never been able to find any bacon without sugar or maple syrup in it and that's where the carbs come from.

I found a Kahn's brand of bacon at my local grocery store (Big Bear) that has no sugar....and it is 0 carbs. It takes a lot of label reading but there ARE brands available.
I am still on the hunt for sausage with no sugar...commercially I have yet to find one but the butcher says he can grind it up without any additives.

I stand corrected

Ahhhh yes, I forgot about Fitday's rounding up. I put in 2 eggs and got a 1g carb count for the TWO.

DANG IT! There goes my "absolutely, positively, super dynawhoppin NO carbs" day. Oh the shame!

On the induction, how many carbs can I have, or have I already blown it in my first day and a half?

lkonzelman Wed, Feb-12-03 09:48

ARRGGG!!!

No carbs during induction?!?!??! You need to read the book!! 20 carbs a day are required to be healthy and lose weight most effectively and you need to count the carbs in eggs and cheese and coffee and cream....

Here is a site for what is allowed during induction Allowed but please read the book - or at least the site link I have attached to understand what you are doing besides just the initial loss here....

All the best.

Kim, you are lucky to have that bacon :) The town I live in is so small we only have 1 grocery store, its a large store though, but still only carries about 5 brands of bacon and none are sugar free, I bought some side pork thinking it might cook up like bacon but it was :( . I hated to throw it out so put it in freezer thinking it might be useful to make chinese bbq pork or something at a later date. Anyway it is good to know that sugar free bacon does exist somewhere, maybe as demand for it increases it will be more readily available. Tho I think I like my town to stay small rather than have all the products ;)

You can always ask the store to order it for you or consider adding the sugar free bacon to their normal stock. Just tell them it is very importand to you to have it available!!! :p

Couldn't hurt to ask!!!
In the mean time I will check out some web sites and see where you might be able to order it.

lkonzelman, it was a joke. I know I need SOME carbs and I will be having "some". I just wanted to get my carbs from salads and greens, not eggs. I have read the book and the link that you gave me. Thanks for the link!

F.Y.I.
Kahns is a division of Hillshire Farms.
They state that ALL of their bacon is processed with no sugar added because the sugar causes the meat to burn.

Check out www.kahns.com

Surely any store would order it for you!
