Splenda??

I have seen ads for this, and everyone here seems to love it. Is this stuff THAT good? And on Atkins, how much of this can I use a day? I mean, I absolutely LOVE sweet tea (I'm Southern, what ys expect...lol). I used to use Equal but the book says to limit this to three packs a day, hell I used 5 packs per glass! Is the Splenda any better for you and how much tea am I gonna have to give up? :)

Hi Allen,

I actually like Splenda, it just showed up recently here on the West Coast. But, if you don't like artificial sweeteners then you won't. I just like it because it is a change from my ol' stand by-Equal.

Splenda doesn't affect your insulin level like Equal does. I think in Atkins book, it says that it's also alright to use Sweet & Low. You have to count each packet as 1g. of carb though.

As far as Splenda being good, I personally, do not care for it. I don't know if it is the dextrose, maltodextrin, or maybe the yellow packet.

Splenda has been available in this area for the last year or so and can be found in most grocery stores. I usually see it with the other sugar substitues in the baking aisle. I think Wal Mart and Target also carry it.

Caffeine is one of those YMMV things. I think the books just say to keep quantities low.

The reason is Atkins seems to think that sucralose is safer than aspartame. Sweet 'n' Low is made from saccharin.

As to whether any of the above affect your insulin level, it's a your-mileage-may-vary thing. The only way to know for sure is to use a glucometer - like diabetics use - to check your blood level.
