Yasmin.....HELP !!

Has or is anyone currently taking Yasmin bc pills and still losing weight w/ LCing? My Dr. just put me on it to regulate my cycles and he claimed that it HELPS women lose weight...but it is a synthetic progesterone pill and I am having some doubts and don't want to start gaining or stop losing...

I have only heard a few details on news headlines about this new medication. But what I have heard is that besides being an effective BC measure, it also seems to help women lose weight. So it looks as though your Dr. is AHEAD of the pack at the moment.

I think the best thing you could do is go to www.hotbot.com or www.google.com and search for "Yasmin" in the last month to see what is being reported. Then you'll have enough information to make up your mind on this personal matter.

All the reports I have glanced at have mentioned the weight LOSS side effect.

I used depo-provera for a while, and I will never touch artificial hormones again. IMHO, fake progesterones are to hormones what aspartame is to sugar: even though many people have no problems using it, there's definitely something going on that the manufacturer and the FDA are surpressing. :exclm: Just be sure you're aware of the possible side effects before taking it.

Yasmin

Hi Mjsturg1,

I've been taking Yasmin for almost two years. I stoped taking it two months ago, and I started Atkins almost 4 months ago. In my case I cannot really assure that the pill made me gain weight. Since I started with the pill I gained weight, but I was eating really bad by then (lots of carbs and fat at he same time). However I honestly think the pill prevent me from losing weight more than once, I was always stalling at 63 kg (with low fat diets and now with Atkins/Protein Power diet). But finally I went down to 60 kg (I do not know if the fact that I am not taking the pill any more has something to do with it). I will see how I progress on the diet next months and if you want I can keep you informed about the weight loss rate (though I am close to my goal already).

Sorry I cannot give you more exact info!

It's not always a good idea to ask questions regarding birth control pills - there never seems to be one pill that works the same for everyone woman. I didn't like Yasmin. It didn't clear up my skin and didn't help me lose weight. I in fact found it very difficult to lose while on the pill. I read many accounts from women saying it helped them lose, some saying they gained, etc. If you want to try it you should. I am on glucophage now and that has made my periods back to normal.

Hi! I take Yasmin and have been stalled for months!!! I excercise 5 times a week 2-5 miles a day + weights and pilates at least twice a week! I eat right! So I think it's stalling me. When I first got on it last year after my daughter was born I noticed a stall. My doc said " you shouldn't gain weight with this pill it's a diueretic"! NOT! When I got off of it I lost my weight. Now, I figured I'm closer to my goal than last year and got on it again and am 7lbs. up and the scale has not moved. I'm sorry for someone that works out as much as I & nothing to show for it is very discouraging! So I decided yesterday that that was my last day on it. Wish me luck! I hate those darn pills!!!!! Us women just got the raw end of the deal!!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

I take Yasmin and have been losing weight pretty steadily - although little by little. I tend to gain weight not when I it's that TOM, but when I start a new pack of pills. Then that weight comes off and even more. Not sure if it's due to the pills or just my particular body chemistry. I think you'll have to try it for yourself and see what happens since every body is different and would react differently to the same set of circumstances.
