Hidden Carb Counter
I have read several posts that mention the hidden carb counter. What does that mean and how do you put something to the test to find out if there are hidden carbs?

On packaging you have the calorie amount followed by the nutritional information. *IF* the numbers from the protien/fat/carbohydrate column don't add up then we say they have "hidden carbs".
Reason why is the companies that produce food are allowed to claim zero carbs for sugar alcohols and other artifical sweeteners because they are suppose to pass through our system without triggering insulin but that isn't always the case. Hope that helps clear that up a little bit ;) I am moving this thread out of the Atkin's forum since the question really has nothing to do with the Atkin's diet itself. |
If the number of grams of carbs, fat and protein don't add up to what? Sorry, but I am still confused. They are listed in grams not calories. How do I check to see if they add up to the calories?

Protein provides 4 calories per gram
Fat provides 9 calories per gram Carbohydrates provides 4 calories per gram |
peg, up at the top of the page under Low-Carb Tools is the Hidden Carbs Inspector. You put the appropriate numbers from the package into the areas for carbs, fat, etc. and it will be able to tell you if there are more or less carbs than claimed on the package.
For sniffing out carbs, the calorie count really doesn't matter when you use the Inspector. Try it and if you have any more questions, ask! HTH Karen |
Thanks so much for your help!
