confusion setting in!

In the atkins book it indicates induction as "basic zero" carbs but so far my day will consist of approx. 10 carbs, simply from the lettuce, cheese, cream (all this hidden stuff) Am I doing something wrong because I am eating only according to the list in the book.

I'm sorry to be so stupid on this it's all so new I just want to be sure I'm doing it right!

YOU NEED TO EAT!

ON INDUCTION YOU NEED TO BE EATING BETWEEN 15 TO 20 CARB. YOUR FOOD SHOULD BE MEAT AND VEGGIES. THIS WILL DETOX YOUR BODY, AND GET YOU WHERE YOU NEED TO BE TO BURN FAT...GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!!!

hi Sachi,

???Sounds like you are using the old Atkins Diet Revolution from the 70s. Although that program works, in the last 3 decades Atkins and his researchers have discovered that you can lose just as much with a somewhat higher carb intake, as Vicky stated, up to 20 grams per day for Induction, then increase the level bit by bit for Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL). Check out Atkins New Diet Revolution, from 1992, revised in '99.

20 carb grams a day is low enough to ensure that ketosis will start, and fat-burning begins. That level would allow for one large or two small salads a day, PLUS a 2/3 cup portion of a cooked lowcarb veggie, such as asparagus, spinach or broccoli.

There is no metabolic advantage at Induction level for going to zero carbs. Some folks do reduce to a below-10-grams level for a few days as a stall-breaker, at later stages of the program.

Eating veggies and salads will add variety and flavour, plus important FIBER and vitamins. Don't skimp on the green and leafy vegetables .. you NEED them... :)

You might be able to borrow a copy of the NEW book from your library, but it is available in paperback pretty much everywhere, for $6.99 US/$9.99 Cdn.

Don"t be discouraged ... you'll do fine .. :D

Thank You!

For your quick responses. I went out and bought the "newer" book and am settling down for a good read this afternoon. Perhaps now I won't be as confused!

Thank You and I will keep you posted!
