Hot breakfast cereal

Hi,
I found this Great! cereal on another LC site, and just today decided to check the carb content on fitday.com...yikes! I calculated a whopping 20 g per serving?
Is this correct....here is the recipe:

3 tablespoons flax seed meal
3 tablespoons vanilla protein powder
2/3 cup water
dash salt

Combine all the ingredients and mix until smooth. Microwave for about 2 minutes.

Top with a pat of butter, artificial sweetener, heavy cream, and
cinnamon to paste.

Would this be an acceptable breakfast on CAD?!?!

seeya,
Suzan

What's the carb count in the protein powder?

Flax seeds have 4.11 g carbs and 3.35 g fiber for .76 grams effective carbohydrates.

Did you check that fitday was not using one of its wacky defaults like a pound?

Fitday Count

Hi Karen,
thanks for the response...I really love this cereal...smile

for the protein powder, I took it from the label, but I found another on last nite that will only be 1..2, so that's a lot better

for the flax seeds, I entered .2 cups, here is what fitday shows:
Cal Fat Carbs Protein
Flax seeds 0.2 cup 144 10 11 5

for your calculation of .76 grams, is that for one tbl?

And hey, thanks for all of the great recipes you post...I've tried some of them, and they are very good...I'm new to LC, so the ideas really help!

Thanks!

fitday rounds off numbers, either up or down. The source I believe is more accurate than fitday is our own carb counter from the USDA database in Low-Carb Tools at the top of the page and it's where I got the first bit of information.

fitday has two listing for flax seeds. One has flax seeds by the Tbsp., the other has it by the cup.

So according to fitday's 3 Tbsp. count:

Total Calories: 177
Fat: 12
Carbs: 12
Fiber: 10
Protein: 7

As you know, you can subtract the fiber from the total carbs for the effective carb count. These are the carbs that have impact. Fiber carbs do not.

OHHHH I get it now

Gee thanks Karen,
I didn't realize that fitday doesn't subtract fiber to give ECC, I was just looking at the numbers under the "today's food" columns...

Phew, I had my cereal again this morning....glad to know it's LC!
