Somers - new book & Schwarzbein reference

Woman's World (issue date June 5, 2001) has the 'diet of the week' and latest book excerpt with Suzanne Somers' "Eat, Cheat and Melt the Fat Away".

Most of us already know about SS's approach, which is very similar to Montignac (lawsuits notwithstanding) and is basically food combining, which [ almost incidentally ] separates meals with carbs from meals with fats and proteins.

The interesting news, for me at least, is that this latest book incorporates SSomers' discussions with Dr. Schwarzbein (of The Schwarzbein Principle).

" but what Suzanne didn't know was why her plan worked. Then she met Diana Schwarzbein, M.D., a leading endocrinologist in Santa Barbara, who not only explained why 'Somersizing' works -- by controlling the body's fat-storage hormone -- but also how to use the plan to get even better results... here, in Suzanne's own words, is what she learned from Dr. Schwarzbein..."

The bottom line, after reading the article through, seems to indicate that food combining (or separation if you think about it) and some low-glycemic complex carbs and total avoidance of simple and high-glycemic carbs, is the basis of the latest SS installment. It seems to be explicitly acknowledging carb addiction and insulin response for the first time.

I *may* add it to my collection which includes a volume of Montignac and The Schwarzbein Principle already, so maybe not... hmmmmmm, if it has lots of recipes I might.

Has anyone seen her on PrimeTV this week on Bynon?

I never read her books (but her movie Thigh Master is my favorite :) ) it sounded like low-carb more than combining.

She talked about a new sweetner her company is working on.

new? sweetener a la Suzanne Somers

Maybe there's another one, but the 1st (?) SS book I have, "Eat Great, Lose Weight" talks about 'SomerSweet' ...

A quick peek at her website http://www.suzannesomers.com/Products/ doesn't produce any obvious SomerSweet but the FAQ on there refers to it as a blend of soluble fiber and fructose and that it's going to be available "soon". Hmmmmmm. It's been "soon" for a long time from the look of things.

She also kind of dissed Stevia :( but almost everyone else does, talking about aftertaste and saying if anyone knows how to make it work, just send her a recipe! I just take any recipe and substitute with stevia! :)
