Pharmaceutical Industry does to push pills: bribe, skew data--Toronto Star

Big Pharma will do just about anything to push pills, including bribe, reward and pay doctors (the term is "honoraria"), skew study data, exploit vulnerable markets, medicalize normal life, donate money, advertise slyly and sneak in through the back door.

In North America and western Europe, the pharmaceutical industry is the single most powerful lobby

All this in a mega-industry where ethics are, shall we say, no longer a burden.

The thing that scares me...

is that they want to "medicalize normal life."

It strikes me that one more reason there have been few studies of low-carbing until recently is that, if we can "cure" our problems with a simple change in diet, we won't need the pills for which they want us to pay through the nose.

Just look at the report on statins that "showed" that they worked better than diet to control CHD (or was it blood pressure?). Of course, that was a low-fat diet. They even went so far as to suggest that people with normal levels should be taking statins as a preventative.

You can bet "they" don't want proof that we don't need all their pills.
