Homemade protien bars

Since protein bars are so high carb and full of glycerine and so forth, anyone have any homemade recipes for high protein/low carb bars?

If not, I'm going to go create one myself!

Hummm, think I'll start with the LC cream cheese fudge!

:D

choco/p-nut

I'm rather partial to these -- they are easy to make, tasty, and comprised only of peanut butter, butter, and protein powder --

Robert's P-nut/Choco Power Bars

I forget where I got the inspiration for this recipe, somewhere on the web. But I have changed it enough over time that I can post it now with my name -- also with my calorie/fat/carbs/protein calculations. First time I have tried to parse out the numbers like this, and if anyone notices anomalies please let me know.

I usually also add some peanuts to this recipe, but did not figure them into the calculations. There is a major default in this recipe: the bars are too damn good. So you'll want to ration yourself to two a day !! -- Robert

Robert's P-nut/Choco Power Bars

1 1/2 jars of TJs no-sugar peanut butter (chunky or smooth -- TJ is the brand I use, but any brand is fine; no-sugar is the key)
3 bars butter
2 cups Designer Whey vanilla/praline protein powder
2 cups Designer Whey chocolate protein powder
1 cup Splenda

-- Warm p-nut and melt butter in mike, combine
-- Combine dry ingredients
-- Combine wet and dry ingredients & pout into two square, glass brownie trays
-- Refrigerate overnight, then cut into squares and store in plastic containers in freezer or refrige.

[KEY: cl = calories; ft = fat; cb = carbs; pr = protein]

Peanut Butter -- Serving = 2 TBs = cl 180 - ft 15 - cb 6 - pr 8
There are 14 servings per jar, a jar and a half for the recipe, so multiply servings by 21.
Recipe totals = cl 3780 ft 315 cb 126 pr 168

Butter -- Serving = 1 TB = cl 100 - ft 11 - cb 0 - pr 0
There are eight TB to a stick, three sticks in the recipe, so multiply servings by 24.
Recipes totals = cl 2400 - ft 264 - cb 0 - pr 0

Designer Whey - Serving = 1 scoop = cl 90 - ft 1.5 - cb 2 - pr 17.5
There are three scoops to a cup, four cups in the recipes, so multiply servings by 12.
Recipes totals = cl 1080 - ft 18 - cb 24 - pr 210

Splenda does not contribute significant amounts in any caregory

P-net Bttr: Recipe totals = cl 3780 - ft 315 - cb 126 - pr 168
Sweet Bttr: Recipe totals = cl 2400 - ft 264 - cb 0 - pr 0
Dsgnr Whey: Recipe totals = cl 1080 - ft 18 - cb 24 - pr 210

R'sP-n/CPB: Recipe totals = cl 7260 - ft 597 - cb 150 - pr 378

Number of bars to recipe = 24 (approximately)

Question: How big are the jars of PB? Are they the small (250g), medium (500 gr) or large (1 KG) jars. Judging by how many servings you said are in a jar, I'm supposing you're calling for small jars of PB. Am I right?

16 oz

Hi --

It occurred to me that I should be specific about the jar size, I am not sure why I was not.

They are 16 oz.

BTW, I have a revised verson of that recipe I am calling "4-3-2-1 Peanut Butter Bars" because they call for
4 cups protein powder
3 sticks butter
2 jars (or pounds) peanut butter
1 cup splenda

Only the ingredient ratios have changed, the song remains the same! Enjoy!

raharris Thu, Sep-12-02 06:24

This is approximate, of course --

P-net Bttr: Recipe totals = cl 3780 - ft 315 - cb 126 - pr 168
Sweet Bttr: Recipe totals = cl 2400 - ft 264 - cb 0 - pr 0

R'sP-n/CPB: Recipe totals = cl 7260 - ft 597 - cb 150 - pr 378

Hope this helps -- RA Harris
