Blood sugar, cholesterol too high, 100 lbs to loose, need buddy who understands

 Hi, I'm about to turn 53 years old and my doctor just told me that I am borderline diabetic and that I probably have heart disease. What a wake up call!!! I weigh in at 261 pounds and I am motivated to find that beautiful, healthy body of mine that lies somewhere underneath all that blubber. It would be wonderful to have a support buddy who understands a little about cholestrerol and blood sugar and all that since I am almost clueless about how I should go about stabalizing it. I'm not sure what is the best LC plan for these conditions. I tried to keep in "The Zone" today, but maybe there is a better plan out there for me. I'm a good support giver too, and I am great at helping people feel better about themselves, so I plan to give back as much as I take. I Hope the right "buddy(s)" is out there for me.
I am very new to this site, but it looks like it going to be great.

Hi Joycey!

We're so glad you found us!! This is a great place for support, there's no shortage here!! :D

About picking a good plan.... if you look at the "bar" on the right and at the top, you'll see a link to "Which plan is right for me?"...it offers a synopsis of the most popular low-carb plans out there.

If I'm not mistaken, Schwarzbein is popular with diabetics (although any LC plan is good), so you might also visit the Schwarzbein sub-forum as well as the Diabetic sub-forum for additional information if you haven't done so already. If you visit and post often, you'll end up with a buddy in no time.....or several!

Best of luck to you on your journey to better health. Let us know how we can help!!

Hi Joycey,

I don't know much about you health conditions, but I do know one thing, you've found the right place to be. This is a great group of people and their encouragment is wonderful. The advice that Teridoodle gave you sounds like a good start!!

Have you started a journal yet? They are very helpful too, and because everyone reads everyone elses, [and can post advice or just leave a kind word] you will get all the support you could need.

Once you have decided which plan to go with you may find FitDay.com to be helpful too. I was told about it by someone here last week and I love it.

Congrats to you for finding this wonderful place!! You will be healthy again before you know it. Just keep at it and don't let yourself be discouraged.

Hi Joycey!

I'm 28 and was diagnosed with Type II back in 1996. I'm on CAD and am working on losing roughly 140 pounds. My sugars are under control (they were at 4.2 last night at bed time) and I'm fortunate that my cholesteral is normal. I'm new here too and hope that I can offer support and get some too! ;)

I've read a little bit about the Zone diet but have only ever been on the Carb Addict one, and it works great when I stick to it. We can eat whatever we want, as long as we keep our high carb choices to the reward meal. What I like best is that co-author Dr. Rachael Heller actually lost 100+ pounds on it and has been able to maintain her weight for some 16 years!

Hope to keep in touch with you.....keep your chin up!

Hello!

Hi Joycey,
Maybe we can be buddies if you are interested? We seem to have a lot in common: I am almost 52, Type II diabetic, high cholesterol and trigylcerides, have a bad genetic profile, and am working hard to educate myself.

Are you on medications? Have you started a journal? I think that I am combining points of Bernstein and Schwarzbein for the moment. I will probably throw in some tricks from Atkins and Eades as well.

Take care,
Natalie
