Water, Water, Everywhere

I assume you mean an American gallon? In which case their are 16 oz in a pint and 8 pints in a gallon.

In the UK there are 20 oz in a pint, still 8 pints to a gallon, but that is 32 oz more.

1 cup = 8 oz
1 pint = 2 cups = 16 oz
1 quart = 2 pts = 4 cups = 32 oz
1/2 gal. = 2 qts = 4 pts = 8 cups = 64 oz
1 gallon = 4 qts = 8 pts = 16 cups = 128 oz

This of course is all liquid measure. Dry measure doesn't go by pints, quarts, etc. Also dry measure varies considerably as to weight. Take, for instance, a cup of lettuce as compared to a cup of nuts.
