Eating too little?

I am concerned--I have no appetite at all--I have trouble forcing myself to eat when I am not hungry--I this just a symptom of ketosis? I am on day 12.

Hi Kathy,

Make sure you eat frequent small meals, and include lots of vegetables. Loss of appetitte is usually a results of going too low, carb-wise which isn't good for you.

It's a very common - but temporary - symptom of transitioning to LC.

Your body is going through a LOT of changes. In this case (and this is partly speculation on my part) you body is shifting from a situation where the carb-induced cravings were enough (more than enough) to sustain an appetite level necessary to get you to eat enough. So your body lost the habit of making you hunger in response to real needs - it didn't need to because it seldom got the chance.

But now, your body is having to relearn how to recognize the clues of a real need for fuel and to let you know about it. That takes a while, but it does happen.

In the meantime, I highly recommend tracking your calorie intake closely and making sure that you get some minimum level of calories whether you are hungry or not. In your case I would say an absolute minumum of 1500 calories and a target of about 2000 calories.

If you don't do this, you risk sending your body into starvation mode where it will do everything it can to minimize your energy expenditures.

In my first couple of weeks I would frequently find that I had only eaten 600 calories all day and I would be anything but hungry. So I would force myself to eat three or four hundred calories right before bedtime just to get about 1000 calories.

Same here. I'm past induction and I'm still not hungry. I can't force myself to eat that much, I'll end up throwing up lol But I just add oils and butter to stuff to get more calories and fat in. It works and I don't feel like I overate or anything. Pluss I drink protein shakes. Gets your calories and protein up

I'm with Slim.

I use protien shakes quite a bit especially on weekends, when I often find I don't eat enough
