Any Ladies Low Carbing to help achieve pregnancy?

Hi Ladies

I'm new to this site, but frequent quite afew others. I was diagnosed with PCOS whilst having some fertility testing done & I'm currently taking Metformin although I'm not insulin resistant.

My question is are any of you low carbing to help you lose weight & *hopefully* help with pregnancy?

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for nearly two years without success & I start my first round of clomid next month.

I'm wanting to start low carbing to lose some excess weight & hopefully it may also help PG'cy wise.

Any other similar stories?

TIA!

PCOS

I just went for a test today to see if I have PCOS {ultrasound}. I have been doing quite a bit of reading up on it in the past few weeks in combination with low carbing.

YES low carb eating will help with PCOS symptoms from what I can gather. Good luck with your progess and hopefully pregancy. There is a forum on here under PCOS... have a look there for more info if you like.

I know of 2 girls on an American board who have had PCOS and now have children. They followed the yeast free version of Atkins. Good luck.

PCOS

Hi There

I put on 11kgs after my first child.
I then tried to conceive my second child and after six months and another problem my gyno diagnosed me with PCOS.
I was then put on clomid for seven months.

Then a fertility specialist suggested losing weight (atkins). In five weeks on atkins I lost 9.5kgs and then in the first month of puregon injections concieved my second child.

Atkins will help you. All the best with trying.

My best friend was told by her doctor and her specialist that she had to lo-carb if she wanted to lose weight, balance her body to get pregnant. She also has chronic back pain and has had spinal surgery threatened on her if she doesn't lose weight and stop eating so poorly.

I want to slap her so hard.

She won't do it. Her reasoning? It will take me too long to lose and I want a baby asap/No diet ever works/Women who are more overwieght and with similar health problems have babies all the time.

I really wish she just realised there are no fast answers to anything in life, and a child is too much of a precicios commodity to risk by being stubborn/lazy.

Aussie with PCOS

Hi,

I'm hoping the by-product of my low carbing will be pregnancy. I posted a bit of my story on the PCOS forum. At this point my main goal is looking and feeling better. But a baby would be very nice thanks!!

I was diagnosed in 98 but have not been able to move forward since my first foray into Provera and Clomid - not an enjoyable experience. I want to do it drug free if possible.

Good luck with the low carbing and the baby making!

PREGNANT

HI, IM KERRY, I HAVE BEEN ON ATKINS FOR 7 WEEKS MAINLY TO LOSE WEIGHT, HAVE LOST 5.5KGS SO FAR. ALSO HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONCEIVE ABOUT 10 MONTHS, I AM 39 & THIS WILL BE MY FIRST TIME.I HAVE JUST HAD A LAPOROCOPY 10 DAYS AGO & I TESTED NEGITIVE ON THE DAY. SINCE THEN MY PERIOD HASN'T ARIVED, I ASSUMED THE OP WAS THE REASON. I DECIDED TO DO A HOME TEST & IT WAS POSITIVE! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT, SO DID ANOTHER LAST NIGHT, STILL POSITIVE, NOW WAITING TO GO THE DOCTOR FOR CONFIRMATION! I REALLY WOULD HAVE LIKED TO LOSE ANOTHER 4 TO 5KGS. :q: DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT WOULD BE HARMFUL TO STAY ON ATKINS FOR A SHORT WHILE( I WAS DOING INDUCTION) IF I TRIED TO EAT PLENTY OF VEGES & CHEESE, CALCIUM SUPS ETC? I THINK ATKINS SAYS YOU CAN DO PRE-MAINTENANCE WHILE PREGNANT? AS THIS IS MY FIRST I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO, DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY RISKS?

One of the universities in South Australia is doing a study on women who have a weight problem, PCOS and want to fall pregnant.

They are having very good success.

I saw this on 'one' of the current affair shows, either Today Tonight or A Current Affair. I am always on the lookout for anybody doing a positive story on low carb.

Sorry I can't give you a web site, but good luck.

weight loss - pregnancy

I also have PCOS (only diagnosed 3 months or so) & have been low carbing now for about 2 months - although not Atkins but much more gently - following Dr Schartzbien's Program of Wellness. So Although I have lost 10kg it has not been at a dramatic rate.
However my Gynecologist said that how much you were losing was not the key thing - it was the direction that was important. She said that the latest research was showing that even loses per week as little as 0.5g would greatly increase fertillity....Although i a not pregnant yet this theory seems to be working with me as I had my first 'regular' cycle ever last month - which feels like a great achievement

Good luck...
