How low is 'low'?

How low carb are you at the moment?

Are you counting carbs, or just cheerfully eating only low carb vegis and not counting?

Are you zero carb (and what does this mean for you?)

Do you eat bars and shakes and things? And how does this work for you?

I'll go first.

Mostly zero carb, but with occasional low carb vegetables (maybe once a week or so).

No shakes or bars etc. And no zero carb sweeteners. I have no axe to grind here, its self preservation. If I eat the sweeteners the whole sugar craving thing comes back, and I can do without that!

Most of my carbs come from veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, bell pepper, mushroom, etc. - no root veggies.) I have a small handful of nuts a couple of times a day, now, I didn't used to do that. I get a few more carbs from seasonings I use on meats and fish, and some carbs from eggs, cheese, processed meat, etc. in very small amounts. (I'm mostly avoiding the cheese and processed meat, but not completely).

I don't actually count anything specifically. I am trying to evolve my diet into a permanent way of eating for myself.

I do not eat any of the bars, shakes, etc. but I do sometimes make iced tea and sweeten it with liquid splenda. I also use the liquid splenda sometimes when cooking where I want a sweet taste, such as on the skin of chicken. I drink diet soda, also.

I eat around 25 gms of carbs, make sure the things I eat have at least 75% of their calories from fat, and ignore calories.

The carbs I eat come from nuts and peanuts, cheese, and vegs, plus trace amounts from coffee additions. Oh, and Peanut butter. The real kind, not that mushed up baby diarrhea natural junk.

I eat the VERY occasional quest bar, but NEVER any atkins product.

I am doing Atkins, very gradually raising my carbs.. almost all my carbs are veggies - I eat about 4.5 cups of veggies a day - mostly leaves - probably around 25g per day. Today I had lettuce, spinach, purple kale, celery leaves & other veggies. Other carbs are things like condiments, herbs, spices, etc. I eat no products and no sweeteners, apart from stevia with rhubarb, etc. At present, I only use cheese as a flavour (not a main ingredient) and make my own mayo.

I only take in 1-2 carbs/day associated with use of half-and-half with my coffee. I use Splenda and diet drinks without inducing any cravings.

Good Luck,

I am at 15/24 carbs a day with all carbs coming from vegetables. Plenty of protien and some fats. I also have green tea with splenda with no weight gain, and of course 80oz of water or more a day :)

I do atkins induction to the letter.

I began with induction, and moved on to my own version of Atkins. I don't count anything, just eat only things that are low carb. Any carbs I get are from approved veggies, nuts. I eat no fruit, no flour, potatoes, pasta, sugar, candy, crackers, candy, cakes, etc. I find low carb alternatives to anything I am wanting. I think for me, slow is the way to go, trying to just revamp my whole eating plan. Not a diet anymore, just slow and steady.

I typically eat below 10, but eat plenty of protein and fat. I don't specifically count.

madeyna Sat, May-05-12 20:36

Most days I don,t count because I stay stricly on induction friendly foods so its hard to go wrong. I do count when I eat something thats a little higher in carbs. usually once or twice a week. Something higher in carbs could be something like a handful of nuts (its really easy to go overboard on those) or cottagecheese anything along those lines really.

That's me, too.

Seldom above 50, usually a quite a bit lower 20-35.

Elfie Wed, May-09-12 18:28

I do count carbs and try to stay between 30-45 per day and split them evenly between my meals (due to diabetes).

Many times I do drink a low carb protein drink (EAS chocolate) for breakfast, but no other processed foods or artificial sweeteners. I only drink water or the Faygo grapefruit water (no sweeteners - 0 carbs) when I'm jonesing for some carbonation...and I don't eat sweeteners for the same reason as you.
