When to Test for Ketones

I picked up my test strips this afternoon but would like to know when is the best time(s) of day to test my urine for ketones.

Around bedtime is a good time, when most of us cut down on our water intake for a couple of hours before sleeping. That's generally the best time for a reading, since water and fluids would generally dilute the reading.

I always found mine were darkest around 5pm, just before dinner.

Try them out a few times in a day and see where you get your best reading.

I'd recommend first thing in the morning - simply because you've been fasting and there's no a) water or b) food to interfere with your results. Later in the day will give you a darker reading, because you've had all day to eat fatty foods.

Whatever time you choose try and be consistent with when you test, same time every day. I remember at first I was testing about 4 or 5 times a day  It was kinda fun!

When to Test for Ketones and Momentary Lapse

I've tested twice so far...last PM showed ust trace ketones...first thing this morning showed moderate ketones.

BTW guys...I blew it last night. I had just such an awful craving for grapes and there was a bag in the fridge going bad...I had bought them a few days before going LC...so I ate...well...quite a few of them. I felt better afterwards and it certainly was better than eating a bunch of candy or cookies like I would have before,

I test in the morning because I drink around 5L of water every day. I am usually drinking water up to bedtime even though I do slow down a bit so I don't have to get up in the middle of the night. Hmmm.... well actually I should say that the results I stick by are the morning ones but testing can be an amusing thing. I am still new enough to really enjoy watching the pretty color changes :D
