Tartar sauce?

Hello everyone,
I've noticed that a lot of LCers use mayo a lot. Does anyone use tartar sauce? I saw a jar of Colman's Tartar Sauce in the supermarket today. There wasn't any nutritional-info on the jar (I'm in Hong Kong). I checked out the info on tartar sauce (not that brand but in general) on the net & the fat percentage looks great, just like mayo. Does anyone own a jar of Colman's Tartar Sauce at home? Can u pls tell me it's nutritional-info? I thank u in advance.
Also, can anyone pls tell me the difference between cuijon (sorry can't spell) mustard & english mustard? I can't find any cuijon mustard in HK & that's why I can't spell it's name properly.
Bebe

PS. I don't know if I can name brand names or not. I apologize if I'd stepped out of line.

Hi Bebe,

I make my own tartar sauce with mayonaise and some dill pickle relish -- if you need a bit more juice I add a dash of vinegar or you could use lemon or lime juice.

Colemans Tartar sauce

Tartar sauce is great with fish.

Not to be confused with a saucy Tartar -a bare-bottom cossack would be an example- which could put you off your fish!

As I think about it..... fish have scales....... dentists scale your teeth to remove tartar......therefore......
Does Tartar sauce stick Russian fish to your teeth?

Colemans add an "e" to make Tartare so you cannot get confused.

100ml Provides:

Energy 281 kcal
Protein 1.2g
Carbohydrate 16.1g
of which sugars 13.1g
Fat 23.0g
of which saturates 2.1g
Fibre 0.6g
Sodium 1.3g

A typical serving would be 10ml (tablespoon) 1.6 carbs.

I rather think you are trying to spell Cajun and not Dijon.

Cajun is hot a spicy mustard mix and Dijon is muddy brown French excuse for a mustard.

You could make your own cajun mustard with good old Colemans English mustard:

Hot and Spicy Cajun seasoning

2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon cumin
1 1/4 teaspoons Colman's Mustard
1/2 teaspoon dry thyme
1/2 teaspoon dry oregano
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder

If you mix it up well it will keep in an airtight container.

Its really good but I suggest you put the toilet paper in the fridge as well.

I checked my book of food counts and it lists 2 tablespoons of tartar sauce as 1 gram of carb as long as it's not of the low-fat variety. Great with fish. In fact, it's about the only way that I can stomach fish...not a big fan of things with scales on them...cossacks or otherwise. LOL

You can also make your own tartar sauce.

I like homemade the best.

I use Mayonaise (you can either make this, there are recipes on the board, with eggs and oil) or you can buy Hellman's real mayonaise, or Kraft Mayonaise, both low in carbs. Mix the mayo with a bit of Dijon mustard or regular mustard (to taste) and add dill pickle relish. I prefer dill pickle relish to sweet pickle relish, plus no carbs. This is the best tartar sauce and you can make it just when you need it and it does not go to waste.

Good luck.

Hi Debi- thanks for the recipe! It looks really easy, I'm pretty sure that I can make that :D
Hi Lisa- thanks for looking up the info for me. I've already put tartar sauce on my shopping list, thanks.
Hi Cindy- thanks for the recipe, plus the tip on the dill pickle relish.
Hello Rustpot- thanks for the detailed info on the Colman's Tartare sauce & the wisecracking posts, LOL. To tell the truth, I'm not sure what I was trying to spell. I'm not very bright or smart really. When I was working in a chinese restaurant in Liverpool, my boss called me "a dark haired bimbo" because of my daftness.
Anyways, I also prefer the english mustard to the french mustard.
Thank u for your recipe, will try to make it as soon as I get the ingredients.
Thanks everyone & happy low-carbing!

Kraft Tartar Sauce

It's 1.6 grams for 2 tablespoons and I really enjoy adding it to both my chicken and tuna salad. It adds just that little something I needed. A little celery and green onion and I'm in tuna salad heaven. I line a desert bowl with lettuce, spoon in the salad. Presentation is important to me.

Correction Rustpot... Dental Hygienists scale tartar (also known as calculus) off your teeth.... Dentists are the ones that hurt you with the drill if you don't do as the hygienist says :p

Away down east, and other parts of Maine we don't have any upscale dental hygenists, we're short of dentists as it is.

I'm from the Boston area, and I almost went to University of New England. They should be churning out the DH.
