gained 1 pound

I weigh myself every other day, to keep myself on track. Two days ago I weighed myself and I had lost 2 more pounds. Today I weighed myself and I was up one pound... not sure why this has happened. I have stuck to it 100% no temptation no cheating and still very much in ketosis..... I can't understand why the gain. Anyone have any clues? ideas?

Hundreds of reasons -- please don't worry about this. It could be time of month, salt content of food, your body adjusting and shifting around weight, amount of water retained, time of day, all kinds of things.

You might want to keep weight averages. Write down your weight every day, and then average it at the end of the week. (e.g., 200, 199, 198, 199, 197, 198, 197 will give you about 198). It's going to take time :)

Don't worry about it. I know how annoying those scales can be. However, you have lost quite a bit so far and so your journey may be slowing down. What a bummer. I'd echo what alto has said and just look at the average, once a week.
I assume you weight yourself at the same time of day as I know I am 3 pounds heavier before bed than when I get up in the morning. Amazing where it all goes!

Hi there......

I have experienced a lot of what I call 'scale bounces'. Going up and down and around a weight, before heading down again. I have noticed that since I've been tweaking the plan and eliminated pretty much all salty foods, there is less fluctuation. If you are using FitDay.com you can track your weight there and see a graph of what's happening. I know that though mine goes up and down a lot the general trend is definately down.

Hang in there.

fact: most scales suck.

Play with your scale for a few minutes you will see how much it sucks. #1 without your shoes on weigh yourself, then step off. weigh yourself again and step off. repeat this 5 times. if it reads exactly the same it passed the first test. #2 put a heavy pair of shoes on and weigh yourself again. does the change in weight seem right? Did it change at all? #3 repeat number 2 with light shoes. #4 have someone else weigh themselves on the scale. (someone that weighs more or less than you) . once they step off, you get back on to weigh yourself again. wow, you either just gained a pound or lost a pound, or if you are really lucky the scale says you just lost 3 or 4  #5 hold a 10 pound weight in your hands and hold it against your chest. does your scale read 10 pounds heavier? At a recent trip to Walmart, I discovered that every single scale walmart carries failed these tests horribly. The more expensive, and digital ones did the worst.

I know everybody says, "you will be fine as long as you always use the same scale." This is not true. If it fails the tests above it is not consistent with itself, and gives you either false victories or false defeats.

My solution is that I weigh myself on a scale at my local supermarket. it is a big industrial type scale that probably costs a couple hundred dollars. I know it is a good scale to use because i way myself, then i shop. while I am shopping at least 10 other people weigh themselves. as i leave i weigh myself again, and it is always identical to the first reading. See if you can find one of these scales in your home town!!!!
p.s. if your scale fails the tests, do yourself a favor, and just throw it out!!!!!!!!

Hi LC,

I agree with all the above... I can weigh my self one day and weight one thing and the next day or two weigh 2 lbs heaver Most of the time its water retention due to a salty day of foods or just im holding water ... or my weight will flutuate up and down for a few days then boom weightloss ... I love going by how many inches i have lost during this time... Tom can also have soemthing to do with weight gain and loss.. I usualy gain a couple of lbs before tom arives or just have no weight loss but I know that the loss is just around the corner... Dont give up just go by how you feel and how your cloths fit...Its a greater reward to be able to put on clothes you havent worn in a while or have never worn...

Designing a good scale that will be cheap enough that people will buy it in large numbers is not easy.

Would you be happy with a scale that was 99% accurate?

Sounds pretty good.

Now figure that if your true weight were 250# that scale could read anything within a five pound range and be within spec.

As a previous post says, you have to hunt carefully to find a scale that has good precision (gives you the same reading every time). The best thing is to only weigh yourself periodically (say once a month) so that the amount of weight you lose is (usually) more than the variability of the scale.
