Not about weight for me - IBS success
For me, quitting "carbs" was not about weight, but about how I felt, and the agony of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
I had changed several things in my life that probably all helped, and quitting eating carbohydrate intensive foods was one of them. I found that if I broke with that regimen, then the symptoms of IBS returned, so I am sure that it is a significant factor. All processed foods, allmost all grains, and additives like MSG and trans-fats and hydrogenated oils, were causing me a lot of bloating and constipation and so on. The worst period was when I was assuming that "easy to digest" foods would cause me the least problems with my gut, and thinking that pasta, cereals, etc. were easy to digest. WRONG!!! Aside from that, the big change that helped reduce my Fibromyalgia pains were getting rid of my bad teeth and amalgam fillings and root-canaled teeth [full dentures now!]. Presently, I have discovered that smoking is causing some abdominal bloating too. I am just in the middle of QUITTING SMOKING, the habit is getting broken right now. It was so hard to know what the problems and causes were, but I am gradually getting it figured out. Addiction to nicotine is devilish, and it kept me from seeing clearly, but I should have known that smoking was bad for my gut [and more than just stomach upset]. So, upwards and onwards, that is my story of success with getting the carb foods out of my dietary intake. |
What a great success story! It's so nice to hear about the benefits of low-carbing aside from the weight loss.
It sounds like you'll have great success with quitting smoking as well. :) |
Thanks, Xs 2, to you TimesTwo.

I quit smoking with chantex and to my surprise I now hate smoking...I never ever want to smoke again...but know this it was not an over night miracle...the first 5 months were HELL!
I have been quit now since the 1 day of Sept 2007. |
I totally agree! I always blamed my IBS symptoms on my gallbladder being removed-----but after starting low carb they disappeared. Imagine that! :agree:

Great job, i hope the smoking issue has as much success for you as changing how you eat has done.
