How many pounds lost? What's the big deal?

Hi everyone,

I am a new CAD'r. I have been on the diet and have lost 6 pounds in two weeks. Mostly water I am guessing.

Here's my two cents about the whole weight loss thing. I have read through many of the posts and I've noticed that everyone is living with the belief system that you must lose excessive amounts of weight weekly. Why? Doctor's have proven that fast weight loss is not good for your body and that it is esier to gain back. A pound or 2 a week is good. I don't know if the Atkins book promots this kind of weight loss, but I believe less at a slower pace is better. Be good to yourself. It is ok if you lose more than 2 punds in a week by accident. But starving yourself or rearranging your diet continuously is rediculous! The weight will come off, be patient.

Sorry if I sound pushy, just wanted to offer some advice. Take care everyone in this forum is wonderful!

Good advice, Brenda.

Two lbs a week is not only a good number but its one that helps ensure that what is lost is fat and not muscle. I think the focus on the large amounts of weight lost at the beginning of a LC program sets most of us up for disappointment as we settle into a more realistic and steady rate of loss.

Slower is better and not only for your body - taking the time to lose the weight slowly gives you the time to learn a new set of behaviours that will ensure when you do reach your goal you are equipped to maintain it. It is often said that losing the fat isnt the hard part - keeping it off is.

Thanks for reminding us :)

Weight loss

Slower is definitely better....you're more likely to keep it off if you lose an average of 1-2lbs per week.

Thanks for the post!

PS- Our extra weight didn't "show up" overnight either did it?
