orange soda?

Hi everyone, Im new to the LCing thing, but I did read the new atkins book. On the induction menu I see orange soda. It does not say diet soda, it says natural or artifical orange soda. Can this be true? I am really getting sick of water. but dont want to mess up with soda if I really cant have it. Thanks for all the great advice on the boards. hugs, Heaven

In the side print it states:

products have some carbohydrate--they may be one of your options for a few grams .

Meaning read the label. If you select an orange soda that has 40 grams of carbohydrates and your limit is 20 a day......that isn't the one he is talking about.

I am sure he is talking about either a natural orange type drink with soda water, or maybe an orange essence type. Not sure. After being on Atkin's for almost a year I prefer water over most anything else to drink.

I find water boring too! You could try Diet Orange Crush. Its made with Splenda. Also (LC PURISTS- don't look!) Kool-aid. I drink it and do not have a problem. I make it with 7 packets of artificial sweetener. The whole pitcher has 3.9 carbs in it. That's less than Crystal Light (12 carbs per pitcher)AND cheaper!! It does contain sugar but I looked it up on fitday and the carb count is .057 per serving or .456/package (without the sweetener.) I also don't like the taste of aspartame so I usually don't drink most diet sodas. I drink the required amount of water (64oz/day + 8oz. for every 50lbs to lose) but believe it or not, I'm still thirsty. (I have been tested 2x for diabetes:lol: )

Hope that helped!- Nolly

P.S. if you prefer fizz you can make the kool aid with 1/2 the water & and add club soda (adding the soda to a glass 1/2 full of the drink mix)

I looked this up in both books, and in the newer edition, there is no mention of orange soda. In fact, the list is much shorter in the acceptable beverages department.

Clear broth/bouillion - read the label
Club soda
Cream - limit to 2-3 Tbsp. a day - note carb content
Decaff coffee or tea
Diet soda made with Splenda
Essence flavoured seltzer - must say no calories and must not contain aspartame
Herb tea - without barley or any fruit of sugar added
Lemon juice or lime juice - note that each containe 2.8 grams per ounce
Mineral water
Spring water
Water

Perhaps the list in the 2012 edition will be even shorter... ;)

Crystal Light

Try Crystal Light, It's a nice change. As mentioned above by another member, it is expensive. Not sure which variation she buys, but my crystal light has 0 Carbs, and only 5 calories. I buy the small containers you mix yourself. Each one makes a 2 quart container. It's also nice to take to work and mix just enough in a cup for some change to you water! Try it! :)

orange soda

Both Crystal Light and Diet Rite Tangerine satisfy my need for both sweet and tart as well as fruit but I am cautious to limit my use of them cause they taste so good they have to be bad in some way!

The crystal light is bad in some ways...it contains aspartame which Dr A cuts out completely in his new book.

:(

The premixed Crystal Light around here is made with Splenda--although a bit pricey at ~$3.75 for a 4 pack.

That's why I buy Kool-Aid. I can add my own sweetener & i'ts cheap!!!(like me! )

ORANGE SODA

I wish I could have the orange diet rite or the white grape but about 10 minutes after drinking them then I start craving sweets. :( So, I have learnt to love water. Now I prefer water over everythings. I have found a herbal tea(Biglow's orange and spice) that is decaffinated and it helps me when I need something that taste like fruit. :D
Have a good day.
