Lozenges?

Today when I woke up my throat was very dry and sore. I was wondering what to take to soothe it. All the lozenges I've seen are LOADED with sugar. Also, if this develops into a cough and/or cold, is there something I can take or just grin and bear it? I have been drinking my 80oz. of water per day & have lowered the heat in my house so I think it may be a cold starting. DAMN! I've never been one to take meds. for a cold but, my throat really hurts. I also have a cool-mist humidifier going in my room with some essential oils in it (tea tree&lavender).

ACK!- Nolly :(

Halls!

I'm sorry to hear you're not well. There is something nasty going around at the moment, that's for sure! I know for sure that Halls has a sugar free lozenge. I'm not sure what the substitute is, but, they are in a white and purple wrapper.

Good luck, and feel better soon! :there:

Thanks Donna, I'll go down the street to see if the convenience store has some. I need the exercise!:)

The sugar-free lozenges that I've seen have a lot of carbs.

These are my two sore throat suggestions:

1) Gargle with warm salt water.

2) Use herbal teas made for sore throats; natural foods stores have lots of them. Look for licorice root on the label. Tastes terrible; works well. The least offensive-tasting one I've found is Celestial Seasonings Honey-Lemon Throat Soother (or something like that). It has no honey.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you're sick!

I had that nasty cold bug last week. My throat was so sore, so I kept drinking caffeine free tea to soothe it. At night, I did have to give in and have a few lozenges, but the tea really helped. I didn't check the carb count on my lozenges because I knew I was low in carbs the days that I used them. (who wants to eat when your throat hurts)

Good luck, and I hope you feel better. I finally had to give in and go to the doc yesterday...I have a sinus infection.

Thanks

I tried the salt water last night & it helped a bit. I ahd trouble sleeping because my throat is so dry. You're right mydelaney, I really don't feel like eating. Yesterday I ate some broth, and forced down some cheese & pepperettes to keep my protein up. so I probably had a total of 3 carbs. BLAH... I think this is the start of a flu. I was going to walk to the store last night (I don't drive) but I was achy & had a chill. :( I'll see if I can get my boyfriend to p/u some lozenges. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It's times like these when you feel that the whole pharmaceutical industry is against LC. Everything is LOADED with sugar! YUCK! I couldn't have sugar now if I tried! There was a cough med. I took while pregnant (very nasty flu) and it contained no alcohol...wonder if it has sugar? Delsym was the name. Anyone heard of it? Also, just out of curiosity, if one was to have "bathroom" problems and vomiting, what would be the right thing to take? (I don't have this, just wondering) My daughter is on Atkins and when she gets sick this tends to happen and I used to give her a sport drink to replace her electrolytes. Thanks again everyone!!!!

What about N'ICE losenges? They are approved for diabetics and I have never had a problem with them.

I use sugar free Strepsils lozenges. They are honey lemon flavour and they have them at most drug stores, Zeller, Walmart etc.
