Whats the catch?

I was looking at lowcarbmegastore.com and they have all these sweets and treats with a 0 carb count - has anyone had any experince with special low carb products - and there any hidden baddies I should look out for?

I know 1 type of truffle bar I tried said 0 carbs per serving. However the catch was each little candy bar had 5 servings.

Some have a high amount of sugar alcohols, which can supposedly be discounted ...for instance, the pure delight cookies list as follows:Total Carbohydrate 45.2 , Fibre 8 , Sugars 0 , Polyols 37 , Protein 29 (leaving a net carb value of 0, which is what they post). I, personally avoid this type of sweet treat.

Other products are made with a high percentage of soy protein isolate, which pretty much negates its own carbs with fiber content. You can click on the individual items and view total carb count and ingredients.

If you're determined to try some of those products...I'd stick with those made with the isolate...and dont forget...they should be occassional treats, not daily indulgences.

Thanks everyone,
My desire for sweets is getting lower and lower anyway.

They might be low in carbs but some of them just taste horrible. Try only one before you buy a box and find out if you like it or not. Plus having lots of sugar alcohols can give you a stomach ache ( or gas).

Intestinal distress

Many of the "fake" sugars in those products cause me severe intestinal distress. Unsociable intestinal distress, to put a mild label on the situation.

I have heard that, if you DO get intestinal distress, it's a sign that the fake sugars are indeed going through without affecting your blood sugar, so you can safely eat these products. If you DON'T get symptoms, then you ARE processing the sugars and should not take the "0".

The intestinal distress is no longer worth the products.

CS CARVER~ that is a very interesing concept!!!!!

Thanks

Except in as much as either way, it means you really shouldn't be eating those products....

Unless your life is much more flexible WRT "intestinal distress" than mine is!
