Is there anybody there?

No posts here for a week :( Where have all the UK low-carbers gone?

foxgluvs Sun, Sep-11-05 11:26

Still here :)
I usually go to the new posts bit, so if no one has posted in the uk forum, I don't go in there to look.
Hope you're doing well :) You can always pop into my journal if you're bored!!

Nobody in the Irish one either, so I've become international in my approach :). Is anyone else worried about the availability of LC products now that at least one of the online stores is closing down due to some problems with trading standards and EU labelling laws? Does anyone know anything more - is it going to affect the rest of them, too?

I am still low carbing just not posting.
I had an email from Carblife saying they are closing down. They said they are closing because of "Trading Standards informing us that we could no longer import products from the USA (tortilla wraps and all the other goodies we all love) unless we had them tested for their composition and re-labelled in accordance with EU regulations. This would have cost over £500 for each product. With the demise of Atkins Nutritionals in the UK, along with Feeling OK we are left with Carbophobia as the only UK Low Carb food manufacturer and this has meant the our range is too small to compete with those shops that have yet to be visited by their trading standards."

Its a shame. I don't order on line very often, but it was nice to know they were there. I noticed all the Carb Options range were marked down in price recently but then I looked at the sell by dates and I think I am the only person in Devon buying the stuff, I feel I have to stock up so they think there is still a market for low carb food.

This is the latest place I've found that have LC products. My favourite use to be lowcarbmegastore but they don't seem to stock much of anything these days! I'd been searching for Mama Lupes tortillas for a month!! Hope it helps anyone!

Yes, that's where I shop too and they have a good range - also very helpful and the orders are delivered quickly.
There's very little LC specialist stuff available to buy in the shops anymore and you have to make everything yourself - no bad thing really. I couldn't do without gluten flour, Dreamfields pasta and pancake syrup, all of which are available only online. My other staples include ground almonds, linseeds and coconut and are readily available in supermarkets, thankfully.

Hi

I started my Atkins Induction on Boxing day and so far have lost 12lbs and have got rid of a lot of my food cravings. I can't believe the difference it has made to me and my outlook on food.

I actually shop for a lot of atkins stuff and low carb stuff in general on ebay - which is good for it :-)

Hi,
I was wondering where everyone was. I Just started Lowcarbing and can't keep my mouth shut about losing. I lost from 180 to 176 the first couple of days. I am ready to get this weight off. I haven't been hungry and I am feeling great.

hi there I have been low carbing for over a year now just don't get time to post that often. I was very shocked by the sudden decline in availability of low carb foods though I don't tend to buy that many it was nice to know that they were there in case i just had to have bread or something. Keep it up Shirl you are doing well just be prepared for weight loss stalls, I have had a few and nearly gave up but I'm so glad I stuck with it

I didn't expect this thread to still be on the front page of the forum after so long :)

Welcome to shirl and kittenki :D

I personally don't regret the loss of the low carb frankenfoods as I rarely bought them since they were so expensive :( But I do agree that it was convenient sometimes to have something that you could easily slip in a bag if you were going on a journey.
