Rooky with Exercise

Got a question. I have a nice mountain bike that was just given to me. I haven't ridden a bike since I was 18. I was wondering, if I bike for a half an hour does this count as Cardiovascular? I have a half hour to 45 minutes before my son has to go to school that I can use the bike. And I read its better to exercise in the morning than at night.. (There is more light outside as well).
If there are any experienced bike riders can you give me pointers?

You bet it does. Biking is a great "soft" sport. Soft meaning it's not hard on your joints like say running. Just make sure you have the seat propperly adjusted to your height and leg length (there should only be a slight bend when your leg is fully extended) and you wear your helmet ;)

Any activity that gets your heart going is good for you. If you're going for longer than 20 minutes bring some water with you and sip from it every 15 minutes or so; its important to keep hydrated. And if you havent been riding since you were 18 take a couple of test drives in a quiet neigbourhood first.

Happy biking!

Ridding your bike is great cardio. Look at the bike racer's there in awsome shape and look what they do everyday. They ride a bike. I say get on that bike and have fun riding with your son. He will enjoy ridding around with you and you will enjoy that extra fun work out time with him. When my husband and I take bike rides my daughter is always laughing and giggling the whole time because she thinks it is great to be out riding bikes with mommy and daddy. But it is a great work out it will really work your legs and into your butt muscles.

Have a great time.
